This contemporary four-star hotel is a great base for exploring Ireland’s most bohemian city — named European Capital of Culture 2020. The rooms are welcoming but, given the vibrant local food scene, the dining offer lacks imagination. Everything is within walking distance though, so simply eat elsewhere. The staff were so welcoming and kind especially thanks to Medbh who brought me toast as I was unwell.

For lunch and dinner, modern Irish cuisine is served, and a prix fixe early bird menu is offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended for dinner, particularly on weekends. Sample menu items include Jack Daniels marinated baby pork ribs and roast honey glazed half duck. A cheaper bar menu is offered with dishes such as Caesar salads and nachos. All cots and extra beds are subject to availability. This hotel was highly rated for its very comfy beds.

We are adding the touches to our lobby, new ground floor bedrooms and a new food concept for our guests. During our refurbishment, we will not be in a position to accept lunch, dinner or group dining bookings. We will be offering our guests breakfast and we will be advising our guests to pre book a breakfast time. Afternoon Tea bookings will be available on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. Our Drinks and Cocktails will be available from 3pm until 11pm in our lobby.

As a city-centre hotel, this is very much a base for exploring the city, rather than a destination in its own right. However, the reception area is a popular meeting spot for coffees and co-working at the long wooden benches. Reception is smoothly run by a friendly, international staff, but service in the dining area could do with some not-looking-so-bored training.
